About Karen Battenschlag

Real Estate Professional in Sandpoint & Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

My husband Steve and I moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1993. We sold our property management and maintenance business in the San Francisco Bay Area, bought a motor home, loaded up our three dogs, and went on the road to find the "perfect small town" in America! Our top priorities included beaches, mountains, countryside, a clean ecological environment, business, educational, and cultural opportunities. Armed with stacks of Sunset and Country magazines, dreaming of the good life, we enjoyed many days discussing and evaluating where we would make our new home. We knew we wanted land, but how much? Steve, a native Californian, thought that 5 acres was plenty, as for me, a Missouri girl, I wanted 100! We traveled for over a year, enjoying our freedom, taking our time to consider many beautiful places throughout the west, but when we drove over the Long Bridge into Sandpoint, we knew this was home! Not only were the mountains and lakes beautiful, the town itself was full of character, charm, and warm, friendly folks. Having always loved the ocean and the mountains, Sandpoint offered the best of both worlds with beautiful Lake Pend Oreille along with the Selkirk and Cabinet mountain ranges. Sandpoint had it all, including, the convenience of a big city, Spokane Washington, just 1 1/2 hours away. Initially we thought we would purchase or start a new business, however fate had a different idea. Steve and I went to work for the Lake Pend Oreille School District. Steve served as their Business Manager, Chief Administrative Officer and Treasurer to the Board of Trustees for 11 years. I worked as the Facilities Coordinator for 10 years. Working hard to improve and provide better educational opportunities and facilities to the children and patrons of our community, gave us the chance to be active participants in mapping the future of Bonner County. We are both strong proponents of responsible planned growth, while preserving our "quality of life". The more we got to know the community the more we understood what a very special place this is, and why the natives love it so much. What a fabulous place to have grown up! We feel this is a very special place too, and are fortunate to call it home. The lifestyle can't be beat. Whether you are selling your home, or looking to buy a permanent or vacation home, land, business, or investment opportunity, my commitment to you is to provide you with professional, exceptional service, based on honesty and integrity. Buying or selling a property is a significant journey for most, where every detail should be treated with importance. My aspiration is that your experience will be a positive one, while assisting you in making your property dreams come true. I also welcome the opportunity to create a life long friendship with you and yours. By the way, we ended up with 10.5 acres, an occasional moose, bear, and a variety of other wildlife that share our property. Any regrets? No, it is truly a wonderful life! And I am looking forward to helping you, "find yourself in Sandpoint" too! Karen
